Of course it is! Although the term of web hosting is used as a single word most of the time ( webhosting ) actually is a two-word term describing the service of keeping a website live on the net! A website could be created on a pc or online but is not live (active) on the net until is "published". Once the site is "published" which means that the technology used to keep the site live on the net has been activated, the website will be live on internet 24/7.
Usually the web hosting companies charge a certain monthly fee for web hosting or they offer free web hosting with the purchase of one of their products (domain name registration, ssl certificates, virtual shopping carts, etc...).
The most common one is free web hosting offered with a domain name registration(Domains-Lab, GoDaddy...). However, the hosting provided is limited in a sense that a ad display will be placed at the top of any web page! The ad will be removed once the service is upgraded which will cost on average around $50 per year - still a great offer for a full web hosting service!
